Home Plumbing Maintenance

Here’s a useful home plumbing maintenance list to help you prevent the need for repairs and get a lot longer life out of your household plumbing.

  1. Check the washing machine hose to see if there are any cracks and that the hose is not leaking or has become brittle. It should be flexible and completely sealed
  2. Observing your faucets to notice if there is any water leaking from the valves or handles is good home plumbing maintenance.
  3. Drain the hot water heater in order to clean out the sediment which builds up.
  4. Check the heating chamber in your hot water heater to learn whether there are any rust flakes inside it.
  5. Check that the flame of your hot water heater is blue with no yellow as part of the flame. A yellow flame means it is burning dirty and the jets will need to be cleaned.
  6. Double check that your toilet doesn’t move or rock when you gently push or pull on it. If it does there may be a leak under the toilet causing an unhygienic environment and water damage on your floor, sub-floor, or the ceiling below.
  7. As part of your home plumbing maintenance observe the speed with which all of your drains including the shower, sink, and bathtub drainage. If they are draining slowly this indicates there is likely a clog which needs to be cleared. Drains should swirl fully and if there are bubbles or a gurgling sound then this is how you know there is clogging or venting issues.
  8. If you have low water pressure in your showerhead it’s a good idea to remove it and clean any sediment which can build up inside of it and be the cause of the low water pressure. It’s also a good idea to test the water pressure coming out of all sink faucet aerators.
  9. Look for corrosion and deterioration in water pipes which are exposed near the foundation of your home and walls. It’s usually in the form of orange or yellow stains on steel pipes and green stains for copper and brass pipes. Corroded pipes will leak and cause water damage as well as mold and mildew over time.
  10. Check all pipes for leaks including PVC and all types of pipes in exposed pipes near the foundation of your home and the walls. Check for leaks in the joint connections, watermarks, or puddling water on the floor. As well as warping, peeling, and musty odors.
  11. Examine the caulking around your tub and shower, toilet bases, sinks, and shower doors. Replace it if there are spots which are missing or dried out.
  12. Know where your shut valve is for each appliance as well as the main water supply and sewer clean out. If you ever have a plumbing emergency such as a burst pipe the first thing to do is shut off the water valves.

Why Plumber.ca?

There are several plumbers out there. Many have experience. So why choose us over everyone else? Here are a few reasons:

check  No Hourly Charges – Many customers do not see the advantages of having a plumber who does not work by the hour. A plumber who works on a fixed price has no reason to stick around after the job is finished to ensure he gets paid more. Even if the job takes more time than required, you still pay the same amount.

check  Upfront, Exact Pricing – Every job we do has a set price shown in our price book. We go through with you exactly what the scope of the work will be to fix your problem and the costs involved. You know before we start what the final price will be – no surprises!

check  Rapid Response Times – Our highly efficient dispatch team will make sure our local plumbers are at your location as soon as possible. Under regular conditions, our plumbing technicians will arrive at your location within 24-hours. Service calls can take longer than expected and specialty parts may need to be ordered, which may push the wait times longer so we communicate ongoing.

check  Priority Calls – Emergency calls are our highest priority. We know they can quickly become a serious situation. You can place a priority call to ensure you are the next customer to be serviced. The technician will be at your location within 24-hours. All priority calls require a credit card upon calling.

check  Local Plumbers – There is no sense in calling a plumbing service that is in another city. We have plumbers in all major city centers across the GTA that can respond to your emergency when you need it.

check  Fully Loaded Work Trucks – A fully inventoried truck is crucial so that your problem can not only be diagnosed quickly, but fixed quickly as well. Even if the job requires a specialty part, we can have it ordered within 24-hours.
