Cleaning A Sink Trap

When cleaning a sink trap, using a sink plunger or a drain auger, also called a plumber’s snake, will possibly remove a clogged sink drain. Though you may have a tougher clog and may have a need to remove the sink trap. It’s found underneath the sink and is a part of the pipes and is likely a job you can do yourself. It’s a good skill to know because if you ever have an emergency such as dropping a valuable such as an engagement ring or a wedding ring down the sink mistakenly.

It’s much easier to simply try using a sink plunger which is the half moon type of plunger when cleaning a sink trap. And if you purchase a 25-foot plumber’s snake these are the first choices for simple drain clogs. When these common tools don’t get the job done you’ll need to to have the right tools. Have a bucket on hand to catch any water that spills from the drain as you’re working. You’ll also need channel lock pliers and a wrench to loosen the pipes and a preferably a long-handled brush so you can clean out the clog with it.

When it’s time for cleaning a sink trap first set your bucket under the sink pipes and look underneath for the pipe which is in a J shape. Then use the pliers or wrench to unscrew the joints found on either side of the trap and remove this from the connecting pipes and allow the remaining water to drain out into the bucket. Look for the O-rings which will be found in between the pipes and the trap. If it helps you take digital pictures along the way so you can retrace your steps when putting everything back together easily.

Use your brush to remove the debris, or soap residue, or hair, or whatever it is that may be clogging the pipes and preventing the sink from draining when cleaning a sink trap. After you’ve cleaned the trap it’s time to put things back the way they were. Don’t tighten the joints too much so that you damage them but ensure they are nice and firm. If they are plastic pipes this is especially important to remember. After the trap is back in place and the drain pipes are connected once again first run the water and keep an eye out for any leaking. If there is not any sort of leak you’re good to go. If there is, go through the process once again and follow your digital photos to help you.

In the worst case scenario, you can always call a professional plumber who will have everything put back together in no time at all. Why Plumber.ca?

There are several plumbers out there. Many have experience. So why choose us over everyone else? Here are a few reasons:

check  No Hourly Charges – Many customers do not see the advantages of having a plumber who does not work by the hour. A plumber who works on a fixed price has no reason to stick around after the job is finished to ensure he gets paid more. Even if the job takes more time than required, you still pay the same amount.

check  Upfront, Exact Pricing – Every job we do has a set price shown in our price book. We go through with you exactly what the scope of the work will be to fix your problem and the costs involved. You know before we start what the final price will be – no surprises!

check  Rapid Response Times – Our highly efficient dispatch team will make sure our local plumbers are at your location as soon as possible. Under regular conditions, our plumbing technicians will arrive at your location within 24-hours. Service calls can take longer than expected and specialty parts may need to be ordered, which may push the wait times longer so we communicate ongoing.

check  Priority Calls – Emergency calls are our highest priority. We know they can quickly become a serious situation. You can place a priority call to ensure you are the next customer to be serviced. The technician will be at your location within 24 hours. All priority calls require a credit card upon calling.

check  Local Plumbers – There is no sense in calling a plumbing service that is in another city. We have plumbers in all major city centers across the GTA that can respond to your emergency when you need it.

check  Fully Loaded Work Trucks – A fully inventoried truck is crucial so that your problem can not only be diagnosed quickly, but fixed quickly as well. Even if the job requires a specialty part, we can have it ordered within 24-hours.
