‘Last updated: February 8, 2017‘ Basement waterproofing Newmarket is the best way to prevent having to deal with the devastating damage that comes from a home flood. You can put it off but you will continue to risk the consequences of this worst case scenario which is tremendously costly to repair both in terms of finances as well as emotionally especially if you have an older home. There are a couple of types of basement waterproofing to consider including exterior and interior. Exterior basement waterproofing is a pretty big job as it requires the excavation of the soil surrounding your home at least temporarily. Interior costs less but is quite effective as well.
Weak Foundation or Cracks in The Walls
Basement flooding happens when your home’s foundation becomes compromised and cracks. These cracks lead to water penetrating the foundation and entering your basement where it does tremendous damage to your walls, floors, and ceilings. Any type of moisture in your basement is never a good thing as it deteriorates the materials and causes them to break down as well as causes mold damage which is another problem to deal with in itself. Taking advantage of our basement waterproofing Newmarket is the best way to prevent any of these issues from happening. Don’t risk having a basement flood, water damage, or mold damage in your home by giving us a call today.
Plugged Weeping Tiles
The exterior drainage system surrounding your house uses what are called weeping tiles to move excess water safely away from the home. Or, towards a sump pump so it can be pumped into a sewer drain. When these weeping tiles become blocked or clogged due to soil or tree roots the water has nowhere to go and puts hydrostatic pressure against your basement’s foundation which eventually leads to cracks, leaks, and water damage. When you call our local plumbing and waterproofing team we will ensure that your exterior drainage system is able to move water away from your home as it should. You can depend on our 25+ years of experience to get it done right with a long-term solution.
Leaky Windows and Blocked Drainage Tiles in Window Wells
Other issues which can lead to water damage in your basement include weakened window wells with blocked drainage tiles. Any amount of moisture in your basement will have a negative effect whether it is a major flood, minor water damage, or mold damage. When you trust our experienced team to provide basement waterproofing Newmarket we can reinforce and seal your windows, basement openings or doorways to make certain no moisture can seep through and damage your floors, walls, ceilings, or belongings. We can thoroughly inspect your home plumbing system and make certain your home will be kept safe and dry so you can have peace of mind in your household.
Mold is a major issue that comes with any type of basement flooding or water damage. It grows where there is moisture and will likely cause the aggravation of existing health issues or make those people ill who come in contact with it. One of the more harmful types of mold is called Stachybotrys and can be found in homes where there is water damage or any type of moisture. Do not take the risk of having mold enter into your basement by having our basement waterproofing Newmarket. We can also ensure that your sump pump is functioning correctly, install a backwater valve, and otherwise make sure that your household will be safe and dry from the damage water and mold can do.
Newmarket Basement Waterproofing. The best way to prevent mold from entering your basement is to prevent moisture from getting in is with basement waterproofing Newmarket. Here is how we prevent moisture from entering your basement.
1. Every exterior basement waterproofing job starts with first excavating down to the footing of the basement. The depth will obviously range but we typically excavate out 2-2.5 feet from the wall.
2. We dig out the old weeping tile and replace it with new 4″ weeping tile with filter cloth.
3. Next step is to clean the foundation walls searching for cracks, voids, and any other defects, chisel them out and fill with hydraulic cement which expands to completely fill the void.
4. From the grading down to the footing, we apply a rubbery membrane which is the most critical component in preventing water from breaching your foundation walls.
5. On top of that layer, we apply a dimpled drainage board which will be up against the soil. The dimples create little air gaps so that any water that gets through, drains directly down into the weeping tile.
6. Now that the waterproofing membrane is installed, we install a layer of 3/4″ gravel on top of the weeping tile and then do a water test to ensure the drainage is working properly.
7. We then backfill the excavated hole we made with the same soil we took out, compact it with a tamper to the original level, and clean up the area so it looks like we were never there!
