Regardless of which direction you choose to go in it is a smart investment that will prevent the worst case situation from ever occurring.
Weak Foundation or Cracks in The Walls
One of the main reasons for flooding and water damage occurring in your basement is due to cracks which can form in your home’s foundation. The foundation can become weakened over time for various reasons including cracks, plugged weeping tiles, blocked drainage tiles in window wells, and others. Having our basement waterproofing Milton is going to prevent these issues from ever happening in the first place. Don’t risk having flooding, water damage, and mold damage in your basement. It is a devastating setback to deal with and costly in terms of time, energy, and money. Rest assured you do well to entrust our local waterproofing team to get the job done right.
Plugged Weeping Tiles
Plugged weeping tiles can become an issue which leads to your home’s foundation leaking and causing water damage. These important PVC pipes have the job of moving excess water away from your home or into a sump pump for safe removal. If they become blocked by tree roots or plugged with soil they can cause the higher water table to place pressure on the home’s foundation. This hydrostatic pressure eventually leads to cracks which water can penetrate through into your basement. There is no reason to worry about this situation when you call our local expert to thoroughly inspect your drainage system and provide expert, long-term basement waterproofing Milton.
Leaky Windows and Blocked Drainage Tiles in Window Wells
Your window wells can become weakened over time and allow water to seep through damaging your floors, ceiling, and walls. The mold that occurs from this moisture is another negative aspect of dealing with when you do not have the proper basement waterproofing Milton. Rainwater and melting snow are relentless adversaries so to speak that will damage your home or business. It’s a good idea to weatherproof your entire home including applying weather stripping to your windows, doorways, and basement openings. Ensure your sump pump is working in top condition to ward off any excess water. And have a backwater valve installed to prevent wastewater from entering your drains.
Mold is another aspect of water damage that happens as it grows wherever there is moisture. Some types can be relatively harmless such as penicillium, Alternaria, Cladosporium, or aspergillus. But other types like Stachybotrys are harmful to health. It can aggravate existing health conditions and cause illness to anyone in contact with it. Unfortunately, mold damage is a major issue when there is a basement flood. It is difficult to repair and challenging to eliminate when there is so much moisture present. However, you can be confident that our highly trained professionals will provide the best long-term basement waterproofing Milton.
Milton Basement Waterproofing. The best way to prevent mold from entering your basement is to prevent moisture from getting in is with basement waterproofing Milton. Here is how we prevent moisture from entering your basement.
1. Every exterior basement waterproofing job starts with first excavating down to the footing of the basement. The depth will obviously range but we typically excavate out 2-2.5 feet from the wall.
2. We dig out the old weeping tile and replace it with new 4″ weeping tile with filter cloth.
3. Next step is to clean the foundation walls searching for cracks, voids, and any other defects, chisel them out and fill with hydraulic cement which expands to completely fill the void.
4. From the grading down to the footing, we apply a rubbery membrane which is the most critical component in preventing water from breaching your foundation walls.
5. On top of that layer, we apply a dimpled drainage board which will be up against the soil. The dimples create little air gaps so that any water that gets through, drains directly down into the weeping tile.
6. Now that the waterproofing membrane is installed, we install a layer of 3/4″ gravel on top of the weeping tile and then do a water test to ensure the drainage is working properly.
7. We then backfill the excavated hole we made with the same soil we took out, compact it with a tamper to the original level, and clean up the area so it looks like we were never there!
